前置限定詞的種類與位置

不像限定詞 (進一步理解，請閱讀『the, my, this可以同時出現嗎？』一文)，一組名詞片語裡，最多只能有一個前置限定詞。

前置限定詞分兩種功能：

1. 用來表示強調的意味 – 這一類的單字本身是形容詞或副詞，也可用來當前置限定詞，常見的只有such, quite, rather
2. 用來表達佔全體的多少部分 – 這一組單字有形容詞跟代名詞兩種詞性 – 當它是形容詞時，它是限定詞，除了少數幾個字外，通常不是第一順位限定詞; 當它是代名詞時，它可以當前置限定詞。

quite / such / rather / what

有時，說話者為了強調名詞，或表達失望、喜悅、驚奇等情緒，會使用前置限定詞such, what, quite跟rather，加在由a / an 帶領的名詞片語之前; 有時名詞片語中間會有形容詞，讓意思更為明確。

1. It was quite a nice day.
   那天天氣相當好
2. There was quite a lot of traffic yesterday.
   昨天車流量蠻多的
3. It was quite a hard task.
   那工作蠻難的
4. She is such a tall girl.
   她真的很高
5. He is lucky to have such a wonderful family.
   他真幸運，有這麼和樂的家庭
6. I would like to have such a life.
   我想過這樣的生活
7. What a beautiful day!
   天氣真好!
8. What a talented boy he is!
   他真的很有才華！
9. As a teacher, I have rather a lot of work to do every day.
   身為老師，我每天有好多工作要做
10. That’s rather a difficult question to answer.
    那真是個很難回答的問題

既是前置限定詞也是限定詞的單字

這一類的前置限定詞如下：

1. 不定代名詞 – all, both
2. 倍數half, double, once, twice等
   第ㄧ、二類可以直接出現在the等第一順位形容詞前面，也可以先接of，再接the等字
3. 不定代名詞 – one, none, any, each, neither, many, much, some, more, most, few, a few, a little, several等
4. 基數與量詞 – one, two, three
5. 分數 – a third, two-fifths
6. 疑問代名詞 – which
   第3-6類的單字，後面要出現of，才能再接the等第一順位限定詞

1. All my friends are going to the party.
   all表示my friends至少有三個人
2. Both the children cried for help.
   both表示只有兩個孩子
3. Half the men died on their way home.
4. He visits his grandma twice a week.
5. I paid double the price for the ticket.
6. One of my teachers is my uncle.
7. Each of them gave me a present.
   each強調每一個各別都送禮物
8. Several of the girls I met at the party last night are from the U.S.
9. None of her friends is sick.
   none代表她的朋友至少三個，在正式的文章中，後面動詞用單數，但口說的時候常用複數動詞
10. I don’t like any of them.
    any代表三個以上
11. Can you buy more of the paper?
12. You can see few girls in this village.
    few表示幾乎沒有，在這個村里，幾乎看不到女孩子。
13. Most of the students in this school study abroad after they graduate.
14.  A quarter of the water is gone.
    四分之一的水消失了
