單字概述與用法
both有三種詞類 - 形容詞、代名詞與連接詞。當它是形容詞時，它是一種限定詞 (the, 所有格, these / that等一類的字)，也是前限定詞 (能放在the, 所有格，跟these / those前的字)，常在名詞片語最開頭的地方。當它跟and連用時，則有連接詞的味道。
- 代名詞：兩個、兩者、雙方
- 形容詞：兩者的、雙方的、兩面的
- 連接詞：兩個都
在使用這個字的時候，要注意：
- 它的位置 - both會出現在句子的許多不同的位置
- both如果帶領名詞片語，後面的名詞一定是複數名詞，而且數量一定只有兩個
- 它跟and連用當連接詞時，both A and B的A跟B必須是同詞性 (名詞、形容詞、副詞等）且最好同樣式 (單字and單字、片語and片語、Ving and Ving等)，這一點有許多人ㄧ不小心，就忘了
- both的語意就只有兩個，本就隱含有指定兩個人或物的味道，所以both children = both the children = both of the children; both girls = both these girls = both of these girls
- both通常不出現在否定句 (用neither來表示否定，兩個都不...)
