單字概述與用法
either有四種詞類 - 形容詞、代名詞、連接詞跟副詞。當它是形容詞時，它是一種限定詞 (the, 所有格, these / that等一類的字)。當它跟or連用時，則有連接詞的味道。
- 代名詞：兩個中的任一個
- 形容詞：兩者中任一個的
- 連接詞：不是Ａ就是Ｂ
- 副詞：也 (出現在否定句)
在使用這個字的時候，要注意：
- either當限定詞時，後面要用單數可數名詞，例如：Either boy can come with us. 兩個男孩中，任一個都可以跟我們去 ( 表示說話者不在乎哪一個跟他們去)
- either of 後面要接 the / 所有格 / these +複數名詞，例如：I didn’t buy either of the dogs. 那兩隻狗中，任何一隻我都沒買
- either跟or連用當連接詞時，either A or B (不是A就是B)的A跟B必須是同詞性，且最好同樣式 (單字 or 單字、片語 or 片語、Ving or Ving等)
- either A or B當主詞時，動詞的單複數由最靠近動詞的名詞來決定
- either當副詞時，只出現在否定句
形容詞：兩者中任ㄧ個的
常見搭配詞：
- either + 單數名詞 - either side 兩邊的任一邊 either end任一端
- either one (of them…)
例句：
- There are trees on either side of the road.
道路兩旁都有樹 - I don’t like either dress.
=I like neither dress.
這兩件洋裝，我一件都不喜歡 (注意either後面用單數名詞) - There are toy shops at either end of the block.
這個街區的兩端都有玩具店 - Either explanation is possible.

- either of +受格 them / you / us
他們 / 你們 / 我們 兩個中的任一個 - either of the+複數名詞
either of the children這兩個孩子中的任一個 - either of +所有格+複數名詞
either of my hands 我的任一隻手
either of his children他兩個孩子中的任一個 - either of these / those +複數名詞
either of these girls這兩個女孩中的任一個
either of those teachers那兩個老師中的任一個
例句：
- “Do you like coffee or tea?” “I don’t like either.”
『你喜歡咖啡或茶？』『兩個 (任一個)我都不喜歡』 - Either of the girls is Mary’s younger sister.
這兩個女孩中，任何一個都是Mary的妹妹 (注意後面用單數動詞) - Either of us knew how to get to the train station.
我們兩個都知道如何去火車站 - She doesn’t want either of her parents to know that she is bullied at school.
她不想要父母中任何一個知道她在學校被霸凌
連接詞：不是Ａ就是Ｂ
常見搭配詞：
Either A or B
當主詞時，語意沒有強調Ａ或Ｂ，所以動詞的單複數由其旁邊的主詞決定
例句：
- Either you or I am his sister.
不是你，就是我，是他的妹妹 (注意動詞由��近動詞的名詞所決定） - She can’t play either soccer or tennis.
=She can play neither soccer nor tennis.
她不會踢足球，也不會打網球 - Either you leave now or I call the police!
你不走，我就叫警察
副詞：也
出現在否定句，如果是肯定句用too
例句：
- She can’t speak English, and her sister can’t either.
她不會說英文，她的妹妹也不會 - “I don’t have any money.” “I don’t either.”『
我沒錢。』『我也沒有』 - The shop sells well-preserved second hand clothes and they are not very expensive either.
這家店賣的二手衣服，保存的很好，價格也不貴

Could go either way
用來表示ㄧ件事有兩種可能的結局，而這兩種之中任一種發生的機率是一半一半
- The game could go either way.
勝負尚未明朗 - The latest opinion poll suggests the vote could go either way.
最近的民意調查顯示，兩方勝出機率各半
Either way
無論怎樣，不管怎樣，無論哪種方式 - 用來表示說話者並不在乎
- You can get to National Taiwan University by MRT or bus. Either way, it’s fast.
你可以搭捷運或公車去台大，無論哪種方式都很快 - You can stay or leave. I don’t care. Either way, it’s fine with me.
