Neither的用法為何？同義詞有哪些？

形容詞：兩者的...都不

常見搭配詞：

• neither + 單數名詞 + 單數動詞
  neither chair 兩張椅子沒有一張
• neither one + 單數動詞
  兩個中任何一個都不

例句：

1. Neither chair is cheap.
   兩張椅子沒有一張便宜
2. Neither story is true.
   兩個說法都不是真的 (都是謊言 )
3. I went to see Mike and John, but neither one was at home.
   我去找Mike跟John，但是兩個人都沒在家

Neither A nor B 不是Ａ也不是Ｂ
當主詞時，語意沒有強調Ａ或Ｂ，所以動詞的單複數由其旁邊的主詞決定

例句：

   你跟我都不高 (注意動詞由最靠近動詞的名詞所決定）
2. She can play neither soccer nor tennis.
   她不會踢足球，也不會打網球

副詞：也不、既不...也不

Neither + 助動詞 + 主詞 主詞也不
注意neither是否定副詞，在主詞前面的話，句子要倒裝

例句：

1. She can’t speak English and neither can her sister.
   她不會說英文，她的妹妹也不會 (注意neither在主詞前面，句子要倒裝)
2. “I don’t have any money.” “Neither do I.”
   『我沒錢。』『我也沒有』(注意後面neither的句子有倒裝)
3. “I didn’t go to the party last night.” “Neither did I.”
   『昨天晚上我沒有去宴會。』『我也沒去』

Be neither here nor there （ irrelevant )
用來表示ㄧ件事物不重要，因為它不會造成影響

1. What she thinks about you is neither here nor there.
   她怎麼想你，並不重要
2. What her intentions were is neither here nor there. What matters is what she did.
   她的動機不重要，重要的是她做了什麼

Be neither one thing nor the other
用來表示某個人或物不屬於句中指出的兩類中任一類，比較像是介於這兩者之間 ( 有點四不像的味道)

1. I prefer a movie to be either sci-fi or comedy - this one is neither one thing nor the other.
   我喜歡科幻電影或喜劇電影 - 這部片子兩個都不是
