As要如何用?詞性決定用法
as這個字有連接詞、副詞跟介系詞三種詞性,還可以當準關係代名詞。當它是連接詞時,它的語意可以是因為、當…時候、雖然、隨著、如同這五種意思,當他是介系詞時,語意是作為、以…的身份,當它是副詞時,語意則為一樣地…,修飾形容詞或副詞,常出現在原級比較的句型中。as 這個單字,因為不同詞性,用法差異非常大。
- 從屬連接詞:因為、當…時候、隨著、雖然、如同
- 副詞:一樣地…
- 準關係代名詞:用法跟that很像,但是先行詞要有the same…或such…
- 介系詞:作為、以…的身份
As作為從屬連接詞的五種語意跟句型
as的語意是因為時,用法跟because一樣,在很多情況下,兩個字可以互換。除此之外,as比because正式一點。
- As it’s a long journey, I packed snacks and drinks for the trip.
由於路途遙遠,我準備了旅途中的零食和飲料 - As the weather is nice, let’s have a picnic in the park.
天氣不錯,我們去公園野餐吧 - I’m studying hard as I want to pass the exam.
我正在努力學習,因為我想通過考試 - As the store is closed, we’ll have to come back tomorrow.

as的語意是當…時,用法跟語意和when跟while相近,用於表示某事與另一件事同時發生。在這個語意下,有一個常見片語是just as,語意強調兩個動作或事件恰好同時發生(兩件事非常密切地同時發生)。下面舉例說明as跟just as的分別:
As she left, my phone rang.
當她離開的時候,我的電話響了(這句話不強調兩件事非常密切的同時發生)
Just as I was about to leave, my phone rang.
就在我要離開的時候,我的電話響了(這句話強調的是電話鈴聲恰好發生在即將離開的那一刻)

as的語意是隨著時,用於表示隨著一件事的發展,另一件事同時也在發展。
- As the game was going on, the crowd was cheering loudly.
隨著比賽的進行,全場響起了熱烈的歡呼聲 - As the sun set, the sky turned a beautiful shade of orange.
隨著夕陽西下,天空染成一片美麗的橘(變成橘色) - As the meeting progressed, the discussion became more heated.
隨著會議的進行,討論變得更加激烈 - As technology advances, the way we live and work is constantly changing.
隨著科技的進步,我們的生活和工作方式也在不斷變化 - As the nation grew, so did what came to be called the American Dream.

*請注意這個句型結構,so帶領的句子倒裝
as的語意是雖然時,用法比較特殊,跟though的用法不一樣。下面我們用though的句子,來介紹as當though的時候,句型的變化:
Though it was raining, I went for a walk.
-將be動詞後面的Ving移到句首,though去掉,在主詞it前面加上as ((如果是形容詞或Vpp也一樣要移到句首)
-Raining as it was, I went for a walk. 雖然下著雨,我還是去散步
Though she worked hard, she did not get the promotion.
-將動詞後面的副詞移到句首,though去掉,在主詞she前面加上as
-Hard as she worked, she did not get the promotion. 儘管她工作很努力,但她沒有得到晉升
Though he is a child, he has a mature understanding of the world.
-將be動詞後面的名詞移到句首,要記得將不定冠詞要去掉,再將though去掉,在主詞he前面加上as
-Child as he is, he has a mature understanding of the world.雖然他是個孩子,但他對這個世界有著成熟的認識
- Tired as I am, I will stay up to finish this project.
雖然我很累,但我會熬夜完成這個項目。 - Angry as he was, he spoke to his son calmly.
儘管他很生氣,但他仍然平靜地對他的兒子說話 - Fast as he ran, he still couldn’t catch up with his competitors.
他跑得再快,也追不上對手(雖然他跑得很快,依然追不上對手) - Girls as they are, they still enjoy playing with trucks and cars.

as的語意還有如同…那樣、以…的方式的語意
- As you said, he did not believe me.
如你所說的,他並不相信我 - She did as she was told.

As 做為副詞
as還可以做為副詞,用來修飾形容詞或副詞,除此之外,常跟as當連接詞的用法合併,構成形容詞或副詞的原級比較的句子。
- He was late, as usual.
他像往常一樣遲到了 - As with all book covers, good design is vital.
與所有書籍封面一樣,良好的設計非常重要 - Father will need to rest as well.
父親也需要休息(as well的語意是『也』) - As soon as I finished my exam, I went to see my friends.
考試一結束,我就去看朋友 - The boy was very tall–as tall as an adult.
這個男孩很高——和成年人一樣高 - She had to get a car as soon as possible.
她必須盡快弄到一輛車 - She swims as fast as a fish.
她游得像魚一樣快 - He doesn’t play games as much as he used to.

As作為準關係代名詞

As 做為介系詞
as還有介系詞的用法,它的語意是身為,作為…的身份。很多人將它跟like混淆,like當介系詞的的語意是像。She is like a teacher.她像個老師,但,事實上,她不是。She works as a teacher.她是老師。
